Overview

Spantik, also called Golden Peak, is one of the most accessible 7,000-metre peaks in Pakistan and a natural step for climbers preparing for an 8,000-metre mountain. The approach starts at Arandu in the Basha Valley and follows the Chogolungma Glacier to base camp. The climb follows the south-east ridge with three high camps; the team rotates between camps to acclimatise before a summit push. The expedition is supported by experienced high-altitude porters and a base camp crew, and a long climbing window allows for bad weather. Climbers should have prior experience at altitude and with crampons, ice axe and fixed ropes.
