Traverse the Biafo and Hispar glaciers via Snow Lake and the 5,151 m Hispar La, from Askole to Hunza.

  • Duration

    20 Days / 19 Nights

  • Group size

    2–10 people

  • Difficulty

    Strenuous

  • Season

    July - August

Overview

The Biafo-Hispar traverse is the longest glacier journey outside the polar regions: more than 100 km of ice joining Baltistan to Nagar. From Askole the route climbs the Biafo Glacier past Namla, Mango and Baintha to Snow Lake (Lukpe Lawo), a vast basin of ice ringed by granite spires. After a rest day at Snow Lake the group crosses the Hispar La (5,151 m) roped together and descends the Hispar Glacier to Hispar village, finishing in Karimabad, Hunza. This is a serious glacier trek with crevasses; the team carries ropes and harnesses, and earlier experience of multi-day trekking at altitude is needed.
