Hunza Valley Travel Guide: Forts, Lakes and Viewpoints

Karimabad and the forts

Karimabad is the heart of central Hunza. Baltit Fort, restored and run as a museum, looks over the town, while Altit Fort, the older of the two, stands above the Hunza river. Both have guided tours.

Eagle's Nest

A short drive above Duikar village, Eagle's Nest is the classic sunrise and sunset viewpoint, with Rakaposhi, Ladyfinger and Ultar Sar all in view.

Attabad Lake and Gojal

Attabad Lake formed after a landslide in 2010 and is now known for its turquoise water. Further north are the Passu Cones, the Hussaini suspension bridge and Borith Lake.

Getting there

Fly from Islamabad to Gilgit and drive about two and a half hours, or drive the full Karakoram Highway over two days with a night stop on the way.
