The Best Time to Visit Gilgit-Baltistan, Season by Season

Spring (April - May)

April is cherry and apricot blossom season in Hunza, Nagar and Skardu. Days are mild, valleys are green and hotels are less crowded than in summer. High passes such as Khunjerab and plateaus like Deosai are usually still closed by snow.

Summer (June - August)

Summer is peak season. Deosai, Fairy Meadows, the Babusar Pass road and Khunjerab are all open, and it is the right time for treks to Nanga Parbat Base Camp or Concordia. Book hotels and flights early, because July and August fill up quickly.

Autumn (September - October)

Late October turns Hunza and Skardu gold and red. The weather is clear and crisp, crowds thin out, and photographers find it the best time of year. Nights get cold, so pack warm layers.

Winter (November - March)

Winter is quiet and very cold. Many high roads close, but Hunza and Skardu stay open and Naltar hosts skiing. Flights to Gilgit and Skardu are more often cancelled because of weather, so keep spare days in your plan.
